Its charming, palm-sized proportions fit easily in the hand. The rounded body is topped by a small, neatly defined rim. It was likely made as a furidashi, a tea-ceremony container for konpeitō or bean sweets.

The ash-tinted white porcelain body bears a simple floral motif painted in a deep underglaze blue. This subdued blue suggests that the underglaze cobalt used at the time was a naturally sourced ore of low refinement. At the base a very shallow annular foot has been cut away, revealing areas of the body with a reddish hue. Condition is good.
