The base and part of the body of the small jar remain; the upper portion and sides are largely missing. As the base is intact, the piece stands unaided.

The clay body is an iron-rich reddish brown, with fine sand grains visible in the cross-section. The interior is thickly coated with a translucent yellow-brown lead glaze, and fine crazing extends across the entire surface. On the exterior, much of the glaze has been lost, leaving a mottled surface of red clay and remnants of glaze.

In the Netherlands during the Early Modern period, alongside white tin-glazed pottery, everyday earthenware made from red-firing clay and finished with a lead glaze was produced. To make the vessels less permeable to moisture, the lead glaze was often applied primarily to the interior, and this example clearly preserves that construction.

The pooled glaze has darkened to a deep brown, and through the widely opened fracture one can simultaneously observe the thickness of the clay body, the marks of forming, and the glazed interior. It is a fragment of considerable character.
