This is a yellow-glazed jar from Yuezhou Kiln, produced during the Tang Dynasty. Yuezhou Kiln is known as a celadon kiln located in and around Cixi, Zhejiang Province, and reached its heyday from the Tang to the Five Dynasties period. This jar, characterized by its yellow glaze, is an example of the evolution of glazes used at Yuezhou Kiln. Early pieces from Yuezhou Kiln used a yellowish glaze, which later evolved to a green glaze, and has a plump body and low rim. The natural uneven coloring from the firing process and the tasteful appearance of having worn down over the years give it a tasteful appearance. It is thought that this yellow-glazed jar was widely used as an everyday item or ceremonial implement at the time.
