Old Tokoname Yama tea bowl with wooden box, Heian-Kamakura period/794-1333CE

Sale price$483.00 AUD

Tax included. Shipping calculated at checkout

This is an old Tokoname Yama tea bowl from the late Heian period to the early Kamakura period. As a piece of pottery it could be classified as a Yama tea bowl, but it is a simple unglazed piece of pottery that was produced from the late Heian period (late 11th century) until the beginning of the Sengoku period (late 15th century) for about 400 years. As mass production of ash-glazed pottery progressed and it changed from luxury items to everyday items, this was a piece of pottery for everyday use that was born. The shape of this piece has the air of tea pottery with its floppy, deformed rim, and it can also be enjoyed as a tea ship if you place a tea jar on it. A wooden box is included.
