This exquisite piece, known as a "Moon Jar" or "Talhanari," is a remarkable example of mid-Joseon period white porcelain. During the Joseon Dynasty, which was deeply influenced by Confucian ideals, the aesthetic sensibility favored a restrained beauty in craftsmanship, leading to the appreciation of the pure elegance of white porcelain.
The term "Talhanari" translates to "moon jar," named for its round and substantial form reminiscent of a full moon. Its soft, flowing curves and robust body evoke a sense of both grandeur and tranquility. Such forms were predominantly produced in the 17th century.
This particular piece is in excellent condition, retaining its nearly flawless form. While many moon jars are larger, this example stands at a height of 40 cm, making it a more manageable size suitable for a tea room. It comes with a custom wooden box.
