AGED WOODEN TEAPOT STAND, Taisho–Showa Period (1912–1989 CE)

Aged wooden teapot stand dating from the Taisho to Showa periods. A shallow, tray-like wooden base for supporting small teapots or tea jars.

A low rim encircles a thinly turned circular disk. The wood reveals gentle growth rings, and within the pale grain is a dry, time-worn character.

With a bright, dry wood grain that might be called “deadwood” and an unadorned, simple construction, it has a restrained character. Though not an ornate stand, it creates a well-proportioned space between vessel and support—whether used with red clay or white porcelain—and quietly harmonizes the tea tableau.
