This piece is believed to be a "Gray Pottery Painted Tripod Lid Vessel" made in the late Western Han period in northern China. The gray pottery, made from fine clay, retains traces of red pigment. The carvings are intricate and exhibit a sense of dimensionality. The lid has some fraying on the rim and one repaired spot, but overall, it is in excellent condition and of museum quality.
