In ancient times, pottery evolved into standardized forms such as jars, urns, and bowls, crafted according to their intended uses. This development began with the introduction and establishment of rice cultivation during the Yayoi period, continuing through to the Heian period, spanning approximately a thousand years.

This piece is a small jar from the Yayoi to Kofun periods, designed to hold liquids or powdered substances. Originally featuring a short neck, it has transformed over the centuries into its current shape due to wear and tear. Its charming presence evokes the allure of wildflowers.

When filled with water, the earthenware absorbs moisture, taking on a darker hue. It would make a delightful vessel for summer floral arrangements.
