現在のカンボジアを中心に栄えたクメール王国において焼かれたクメール陶器は、はじめに灰釉陶器が作られ、12世紀頃より褐釉が盛んになりました。褐釉を施した小皿や小壺などの小品は、クメール陶器にしばしばみられます。本品は、ベタ底から上腰に立ち上がり、半月状の杯部を持つ器形で、酒盃に見立てたくなる一品です。
