Thrown on a wheel from a pale yellow-brown clay, this Dutch color-glazed Delft small jar tapers slightly from a plump body toward the mouth, the rim turned outward. Small enough to fit in the palm, the body retains multiple fine throwing rings, lending subtle movement to its simple, rustic form.

A yellow-brown lead glaze has been applied to the interior as far as the rim. The glaze is not uniform: yellow, amber, and brown mingle in subtle variegation, and at the rim it catches the light with a glossy lustre. By contrast, the exterior is left largely unglazed, preserving the dry surface of the clay.

Along the body, fine traces indicate where a reddish-brown glaze has flowed, and on one side a single arc-shaped streak remains. Whether this was applied deliberately or formed during glazing is unclear, but it stands out against the pale clay surface. Wheel-throwing rings, wear, and firing-related color variations overlap, leaving the small vessel with a vivid expression of clay and fire.

Although Delft is best known for white, tin-glazed earthenware painted in blue, the Netherlands long produced everyday pottery finished with lead glaze. This example belongs to that tradition of colored Delftware and, unlike the more ornate painted pieces, retains the uncontrived, straightforward character of domestic pottery.

The rim shows small chips and areas of flaked glaze, and the body bears a crack extending from the rim as well as abrasion and soiling. The glossy yellow glaze contrasts with the dry clay surface, with a single streak of reddish-brown running between them. Small though it is, the jar offers a compelling surface and harmonizes well when displayed alongside antique ceramics, Joseon wares, or wooden objects.
