This exquisite piece is a small demitasse cup crafted in the late 19th century during the Ottoman Empire. Adorned with stylized tulip motifs in a vibrant palette of red, blue, and green against a white background, the soft, glazed earthenware surface evokes a certain affinity with Mediterranean maiolica ceramics.

Unlike traditional finjan (handleless coffee cups), this cup features a handle, reflecting the influence of tea set forms introduced from Western Europe after the 19th century. Its shape and decoration intertwine traditional Islamic designs with the rustic creativity of local workshops, leaving traces of intimate craftsmanship in its gentle contours and rich colors.

The tulip is a hallmark motif of Ottoman art, and in this piece, its stylization is somewhat exaggerated in a caricature-like manner. Despite its small size, it is a deeply engaging example of the period.
