This is a white-glazed Delftware cup made in the 17th or 18th century. Delftware spread throughout Europe during the Age of Discovery, and was originally made to be used as an ointment container, but in Japan it has been highly valued since the Edo period as a sake cup or water jar for the tea ceremony.

This piece is made of soft earthenware and features a smooth white surface that looks like it has been covered in yogurt. It feels moist when you hold it in your hand, and the shadows are reflected beautifully. There is a glassy pool formed during firing inside the rim, which creates an attractive appearance.

This item is one of a precious collection that was given to me by a local excavator during a trip to the Netherlands. It comes with an extremely rare 18th century wooden lid.

The water leakage test was fine for one night, but since it is an old item, we cannot guarantee that it will not leak in the future. Due to the current situation, it is becoming very difficult to obtain Delftware. Why not add it to your collection?
