Each piece is carefully packed for international delivery.
The Haeju-ban was used as a dining tray during the Joseon Dynasty. The top board, lacquered in black, has raised edges that secure vessels placed upon it. The side panels feature openwork carving, lending decorative interest to this simple, utilitarian piece of furniture.
This piece shows extensive wear—thinned lacquer, abrasions to the wood, and hairline cracks in the side panels—yet its construction remains solid, and it can be used with confidence. Set in a tea room it takes on an even stronger presence and serves admirably as a tea stand for a two-person tea gathering.
This piece shows extensive wear: the black lacquer has thinned and the wood bears chips and linear marks; yet these qualities form a rich patina and impart a composed presence. Placed in the tea room, it sets off the tea utensils and serves admirably as a tray for a two-person tea service.
