A set of five Qing-dynasty antique pewter tea saucers, lobed flower–shaped and stippled with a plum-blossom-and-bird motif.
This horizontally elongated, lobed-flower-shaped tea saucer, with petals extending to either side, is decorated with a stippled plum-and-bird motif running from the central well across the lateral surfaces. The design is formed by a succession of fine dots; depending on the way light falls, the plum blossoms and birds emerge.
The shape is shallow and compact, well suited to small sencha bowls or white porcelain cups. As well as serving as sencha utensils, they pair nicely with small Chinese tea cups, and the motifs on either side of the saucer are clearly visible. Each underside bears a mark.
The pewter surface bears age-related dulling, abrasions, minor scratches, and areas of discoloration. It is an antique pewter tea saucer with a pleasing, well-worn patina.
