古墳時代における勾玉は日本の古代の装身具の一種です。円盤状や半月状の形状を持ち、中央に穴が開いています。これらの形状は、神聖な力を持つと信じられ、霊的な象徴として重要視されました。勾玉は主に首飾りや装身具として使用され、貴族や豪族の身分や地位を示すためのシンボルとして身に着けられました。
本品は、滑石から作られた大きめの一対の勾玉です。滑石（かっせき）は、硬度が低く加工しやすい石材であり、古代日本では勾玉や装飾品の材料として好まれました。一対をして陰陽を成しています。状態も良好です。
