This ewer, characterized by its straight-waisted form, originates from an ancient kiln. It is a rare piece that retains its complete shape without any repairs.

The design features a double-flared mouth, and the shaping of the body, along with the finger marks on the neck and body, closely resembles that of ancient Seto ewers. Additionally, the handle exhibits consistent characteristics found in ancient Seto ware. When water is poured into it, a strong earthy aroma emanates from the pottery.

However, the elongated neck and the distinct application of the ash glaze suggest it may not be purely Seto in origin. It raises the possibility of Chinese influence. Despite extensive research for comparable examples, none have been found to date, leaving its exact provenance uncertain.

The rustic charm of the clay, developed over a long passage of time, combined with the rich nuances of the ash glaze, evokes the essence of wildflowers.
We invite you to prepare bamboo vases and enjoy daily blooms or use it in a tea ceremony setting.
