本品は明治時代に製作された古竹製の茶合です。全体を覆う飴色の経年変化が味わい深く、表面には山水図と漢詩が彫り刻まれています。細部の彫りは浅彫りを基調としつつ、山水の遠近や詩句の筆意を感じさせる筆致が残っており、使い込まれたことで竹肌にしっとりとした光沢が生じています。内底には茶葉を受け止めやすい窪みが設けられ、実用性にも配慮された一品です。日々の茶席での茶合としてはもちろん、茶箱に収めて携行する茶道具としてもお薦めいたします。
