これはペルシャ（現イラン）で制作された陶製の灯火器です。もともとは油を入れ、先端のこより紐を垂らして火を灯す実用具として用いられてきました。長い年月を経て表面には自然な釉薬の剥がれや微細な貫入が現れ、深みのある色合いとともに素朴な風合いを帯びています。丸みを帯びたフォルムは身に余る装飾性を抑えつつも品格があり、手に取るとその重量感と釉裏の手触りに古陶器ならではの味わいが伝わってきます。
書道具の水滴に見立ててお使いいただくのも、趣があります。
