YAMACHAWAN (MOUNTAIN TEA BOWL), Ko-Tokoname, Heian Period (794–1185 CE)

This is a Yamachawan (Mountain Tea Bowl) from the Heian Period. It was fired in the upper section of the kiln, showcasing a generous application of natural glaze. The bowl features areas that have been repaired using the traditional kintsugi technique, highlighting its history. With its wide rim and deep form, it is perfectly suited for use as a tea vessel, and can also serve as an elegant tea boat when paired with a small teapot.
