Khmer pottery, which was produced in the Khmer Kingdom that flourished mainly in present-day Cambodia, began as ash-glazed pottery, and brown-glazed pottery became popular around the 12th century. Small pieces such as small plates and vases with brown glazes are often found in Khmer pottery. This piece has a crescent-shaped cup shape that rises from a flat bottom to the upper waist, making it ideal for use as a sake cup.
