Shakudani Stone Bando Stone Furnace Muromachi Period/1336-1573CE

This is a bandoko (stone furnace) made by carving out Shakudani stone during the Muromachi period. A similar example was excavated from the ruins of Odani Castle without a lid. Although it has cracks and missing parts, it has been preserved with the lid still attached, and each part has been carefully restored. Looking inside, you can see rough chisel marks, but on the other hand, the round shape with square windows gives it a gentle appearance that evokes nostalgia.
