This is a white-glazed Delftware cup made in the 17th or 18th century. Delftware spread throughout Europe during the Age of Discovery, and was made to be used as an ointment container, but in Japan it has been highly valued since the Edo period as a sake cup or water jar for the tea ceremony.
This piece is made of soft earthenware and has a smooth white surface that looks as if it has been covered in yogurt. It feels soft to the touch and the shadows are reflected beautifully. The fraying and burnt stains that appear over time actually enhance the quality of the piece. These changes over time are the unique charm of Delftware.
The water leakage test was fine for one night, but since it is an old item, we cannot guarantee that it will not leak in the future. Due to the current situation, it is becoming very difficult to obtain Delftware. Why not add it to your collection?
