A shallow earthenware bowl from the Yayoi period.

A small, bowl-shaped earthenware with the rim turned up on all four sides. The vessel’s form shows slight irregularity, conveying the unassuming strength characteristic of hand-shaped pottery.

The surface takes on a reddish-brown hue, with particles of the clay and irregularities from firing forming its visual character. Rather than the bold ornamentation of Jomon pottery, it presents a quiet presence centered on form and the inherent qualities of the clay.

Although a utilitarian vessel, it nevertheless recalls ritual and offering vessels, conveying the simple, unadorned beauty of Yayoi pottery. Despite its modest size, it displays attractively on a shelf or within the setting of a tea room.

There are chips and wear to the rim, and overall the vessel exhibits weathering and surface abrasion typical of earthenware. Please refer to the photographs for condition.
