A set of five ring-shaped tea saucers in aged wood from the Meiji period.

A ring-shaped wooden tea saucer with a large central circular aperture. Compact in proportion, it has been thinly turned throughout and finished with a gentle slope from the inner opening toward the outer rim.

The material appears to be mulberry, with a fine grain and a well-worn sheen. Its warm brown surface bears layers of abrasion and mellowing from long use, developing the subdued patina characteristic of aged wood.

From the clearance of a long-established sencha household, all five pieces are in good condition. They are well suited as saucers for small teacups and also pair gracefully with the petite cups used for Chinese tea.

The saucer’s open center gives it a light, unconfined quality, and when a teacup is set upon it the wood’s rounded form is quietly revealed. This set of five is well suited to sencha service and equally convenient for arranging Chinese tea.

Given its age, the item shows wear including rubbing, minor scratches, surface dulling, and slight soiling. There is no major damage, and it is in a condition readily suited to practical use.
