This is a large Sutra mound jar from the Heian to Kamakura periods, known as Ko-Tokoname. It represents a lineage of medium-sized jars within the genre of Sue ware, a distinctive type of pottery that flourished in the central region of the Chita Peninsula from the early 12th century. The jar features a small foot and a gently bulging body that tapers to a flared rim, creating a unique silhouette characterized by its distinctive textures and patterns, including the techniques of hitotsuki, yobitsuki, and furimono. Its presence is truly singular. Accompanied by an inscribed box.
