This piece is a modest incense container from the Edo Period, exemplifying the artistry of Ohi ware. The small kiln of Ohi ware employs a unique firing technique, rapidly raising the temperature before withdrawing the piece for a swift cooling. This abrupt temperature change, distinctive to both Raku and Ohi ware, often results in the appearance of subtle striations, which can be observed on this container.
