Kibundō, active from the late Bakumatsu into the Meiji period, was based in Ōmi, Shiga, and is renowned for producing many notable iron kettles and tea utensils. This piece is a suirō (brazier): a composed work of thick iron adorned with repeating geometric motifs. The upper rim bears a thunder pattern, and the body is incised with a fine lattice; these classical decorations give the whole a restrained, venerable presence.
The pierced fire holes in the body, the taut, flaring hem of the lower section, and the three beast‑foot–style legs convey a vigorous presence, while the iron surface is well seasoned and shows a deep, richly textured patina. The underside is engraved with an inscription indicating provenance from Kamebundo. Consider incorporating it into an everyday tea service.
