A carved bamboo sencha tray with a landscape design dating to the Meiji–Taisho period.
The oval tray has a low rim, and the well is finely incised with a delicate landscape scene.

The bamboo surface has mellowed to a bright amber, its well-worn scuffs and faint stains layered across it. The painted subject is a quiet landscape of mountain ridges, trees, a waterside, and a small boat. The lines are fine and in places fade as if veiled by mist; these delicate abrasions contribute to the serene character typical of an aged sencha tray.

The rim is carved with bamboo nodes, giving the piece an overall lightness. When used to display white porcelain, red-clay wares, or antique glass, it imparts a soft, understated sense of openness to the tea setting.

This bamboo sencha tray has arrived after a long absence. Its quiet, weathered presence invites tea.
