Medieval Delft ceramics often feature a simple design, characterized by a transparent glaze applied directly to a clay body rich in iron. These wares, frequently depicted in contemporary oil paintings, appear to have been more closely integrated into daily life than their white Delft counterparts. Among the surviving colored cream pots, one can observe a variety of styles and forms, each exuding an anonymous charm.
This piece is a 17th-century colored Delft cup, which could also serve elegantly as a small sake vessel.
