This sencha tray is carved from solid wood and exquisitely renders a bamboo ajiro (woven-bamboo) pattern. The surface bears a delicate ajiro motif; the rim is carved to resemble bamboo, and the rounded corners are elegantly finished. The base is formed with four carefully carved feet.

Relatively lightweight wood was used, and over many years it has mellowed to a warm brown. The surface shows a gentle, satiny sheen, and each element of the woven-lattice pattern remains sharply defined. The fine carving and the quality of its solid construction are evident.

A small tray with a refined air suited to sencha tea utensils; tea vessels are set off beautifully upon it. The condition is good.
