This vase was carved into a boat-like shape. The radial lines that run from the sides to the bottom are traces of insect bites. Patterns like this can sometimes appear just under the bark of a tree, but it is extremely rare to find one of this size.
The depression in the center of the top is a flower holder that can be filled with water. I happened to have a branch of camellia bush lying around, so I've included it here as a reference photo.
