This exceptionally rare earthenware guardian lion-dog features a distinctive one-horned design with upright ears and a three-pronged tail, embodying characteristics reminiscent of ancient lion and komainu statues. Its endearing, gentle expression suggests it may have been crafted for the purpose of warding off evil spirits.
Since acquiring this piece, I have conducted extensive research; however, I have yet to ascertain its historical context. It is likely an archaeological find, exhibiting careful restoration by skilled conservators in various areas.
The ceramic quality is evident, as a light splash of water reveals a strong earthy aroma.
