The cypress fence design is a distinctive feature of Shigaraki ceramics. It is said to resemble either a shimenawa (sacred rope) or a bamboo fence that marks a boundary, though its exact origins remain uncertain. This size of jar is referred to as uzukumaru, and it was traditionally used for storing seeds and other items.
The shoulder and lower body are covered in ash, giving the surface a reddish hue. The base is flat. The jar showcases a well-defined cypress fence pattern and a sharply constricted double mouth, both of which are notable features that exude a sense of strength and vitality.
