A set of five antique bamboo sweets dishes dating from the Taisho to Showa periods.
An oval dish finely carved from bamboo, its shallow concave center and smoothly rounded rim lend it a tranquil bearing. Its modest size is just right for dry sweets or other small confections.
The surface reveals the fine fibres of the bamboo and has acquired a well‑worn amber patina. Unadorned, it nonetheless conveys the material’s innate lightness and rustic simplicity, pairing harmoniously with lacquer trays and wooden vessels.
Each of the five dishes shows variations in color, areas of wear, minor scratches, and faint staining. While broadly attributable to the Taisho–Showa period, the workmanship suggests they are likely from the early Showa era.
A lightweight old bamboo dish that, while ideal for serving sweets, also lends itself readily to a quiet tea moment or to small decorative arrangements.
