This white Delftware piece from the Age of Exploration was originally crafted as a container for ointments. However, in Japan, it has been cherished since the Edo period as a tea utensil, serving as a cup or water vessel in the tea ceremony. Its soft, creamy surface, reminiscent of yogurt, is made from earthenware, offering a delightful tactile experience. The nuanced play of light and shadow on its form reveals a timeless beauty.

After filling it with water for about an hour, I found no leaks. In addition to serving as a sake cup, it could also function beautifully as a small flower vase. This piece is in the albarello style.
