The term "Anderson ware" is derived from Dr. Anderson, a Swedish archaeologist who first discovered this type of pottery. It refers collectively to the semi-mountainous style of painted pottery that belongs to the Majiayao Culture.
While Anderson ware encompasses various forms, this particular piece is an exceptionally rare bag-shaped vessel. This shape is believed to have been transmitted from Silla to Japan, with only a few examples of Suwa ware in this form still in existence.
Both sides of the vessel are adorned with a design resembling a wish-granting jewel. It is in excellent condition, retaining its complete form.
