This exquisite piece is a small jar of gray earthenware, unearthed from China and dating back to the Song Dynasty (960–1279 CE). The rim is delicately formed with a thin edge, and the jar is characterized by its unglazed surface, showcasing a well-fired, dense body. The influence of reduction firing during its creation has imparted a grayish hue to the vessel, while the surface bears a reddish-brown patina of oxidized earth, formed over many years in the ground.

Despite its long history, the preservation condition of this artifact is remarkably good, with no visible chips, losses, or signs of repair on the rim or body. Thanks to the sturdy nature of the clay, it has withstood the test of time with minimal deterioration, standing stable enough for practical use. With the addition of a lid, it can also serve as a tea caddy, making it a versatile and functional piece.
