During the Han Dynasty (206 BCE–220 CE), the manufacturing techniques of ceramics in China reached a high level of sophistication, resulting in the production of a diverse array of pottery. Among these, green-glazed ceramics hold a particularly significant place. Commonly referred to as "green-glazed pottery," this type of ceramic derives its vibrant hue from a lead-based glaze. This glaze, when fired at high temperatures, imparts a striking green color to the surface of the pottery.

Within the realm of Han Dynasty green-glazed ceramics, examples exhibiting a silvering effect, such as this piece, have been unearthed. Silvering refers to the phenomenon where silver-colored spots or luster appear on the surface of the pottery, primarily as a result of the surrounding soil environment. Specifically, it is believed that during the time the pottery is buried, acidic substances in the soil react with the glaze, leading to the emergence of this silvery sheen.

This piece is an exceptionally rare bonsai pot among green-glazed ceramics.
