This is a bowl-shaped earthenware piece from the Haji ware tradition, crafted during the Kofun Period (250-581 CE).

The gently rounded form of this bowl evokes a sense of warmth from hand craftsmanship, embodying the robust essence of earth and fire. During the Kofun Period, various ethnic groups coexisted across the Japanese archipelago, concurrently producing a diverse array of ceramics, including Haji ware, Sue ware, and other earthenware. Notably, Haji ware is characterized by its rustic and primitive beauty, featuring forms that resonate with a tactile, primordial quality.

This bowl-shaped earthenware, while simple, showcases a natural curve that beautifully reflects the maker's touch, merging the presence of the clay itself with the powerful energy imparted by the firing process. It feels as though the intentions of the ancient artisan are still palpable within this piece.

Additionally, it comes with a wooden box, allowing for careful preservation as part of a cherished collection.
