This piece is an ash-glazed elephant sculpture from the Sawankhalok kiln, produced during the Sukhothai period between the 14th and 16th centuries. Such animal figures, created for offerings and rituals, were utilized throughout Southeast Asia and traded widely.

The elephant is rendered in a robust clay body, adorned with a pale gray ash glaze. Over the years, a weathered patina has developed, casting soft shadows under gentle light.

These animal forms from Sawankhalok ware were highly valued in Japan as "Tang-style decorations," often used as incense holders or ornamental pieces in tea ceremonies and study rooms. This work embodies an exotic charm woven from clay, glaze, and time. Its incomplete form evokes a serene stillness of memory.
