Medieval Delftware features simple forms that were fired with a transparent glaze applied directly to an iron-rich body. As evidenced by their frequent appearances in contemporary oil paintings, these wares were likely more integral to daily life than their white Delft counterparts. Among the surviving colored cream pots, one can observe a variety of styles and shapes, all exuding an anonymous charm.
This piece is a 17th-century colored Delft cup, which could also be elegantly repurposed as a small sake vessel.
