This ear cup, adorned with an iridescent green glaze, dates back to the Han Dynasty (206 BCE–220 CE). During this period, China witnessed the emergence of true celadon for the first time in its ceramic history, alongside a diverse array of techniques and forms, including ash-glazed and lead-glazed pottery. The design of this double-handled vessel is crafted to prevent direct contact with the rim, making it suitable for use in formal occasions such as rituals. The green glaze exhibits a natural silvering that has developed over the centuries, imparting a rich and nuanced character to the piece. This silvering is believed to have formed over hundreds of years, creating a unique visual landscape. Furthermore, it has been tested to hold water for approximately one hour without leakage, allowing for contemporary uses such as displaying wildflowers in modern settings.
