Square lidded bottle decorated in famille rose with a hundred-flowers pattern, dating from the Qing through the Republican period. It was made as a tea caddy.

The four sides of the body are painted in famille rose enamels with peonies, chrysanthemums, bamboo, flowering plants, and birds. Each panel bears a different design, allowing the piece to be enjoyed as the front is turned. An undulating border encircles the shoulder, and blue accents have been applied to the feet at each corner.

Floral motifs extend onto the lid, harmonizing with the painted decoration on the body. The polychrome enamel is vivid, yet the vessel’s restrained form prevents it from appearing overly busy on a shelf.

In addition to serving as a tea caddy for sencha, its dimensions make it well suited to arrangements on a tea shelf. The pale overglaze colours stand out against the white porcelain body, making it an attractive piece for display on shelves or tabletops.

There is age-related soiling around the foot. Overall, surface wear, hairline cracking, and slight soiling are present, but there is no significant or conspicuous damage.
