This incense burner, shaped like a li—an ancient Chinese bronze vessel—has evolved into a form reminiscent of a figure wearing a hakama, hence its designation as "hakama-waist" in Japan. A quintessential example of celadon from the Longquan kiln, it dates back to the 13th century, during the late Southern Song to Yuan dynasties. The blue-green celadon hakama-waist incense burner is one of the many artifacts that made their way to Japan during the Kamakura period. This particular piece has been cherished over the years, though it does exhibit some fraying and minor chips. Nevertheless, it retains its complete form, making it a valuable addition to any collection.
