This is a Katakuchi Chōshi, a Ko-Jōhōji ware piece from the Muromachi Period (1336–1573 CE). Items from this era are quite rare, with very few examples still in existence.
The present piece shows signs of extensive use, and the passage of time has led to wear on the surface, with areas of loss in the lacquer and insect damage that covers much of the vessel. Fortunately, the insect activity has ceased.
It is a piece that deserves more than mere collection; its presence embodies the essence of wabi-sabi. I encourage you to place a drop-in vase inside and enjoy it as a flower holder.
Numerous product photos are available for you to examine the details and condition. Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
