This is a museum-quality example of a fabric-impressed roof tile from the Nara Period (710–794 CE). The fabric impressions are the result of the use of linen cloth during the tile-making process, a characteristic commonly found in tiles from the Asuka through the Nara and Heian periods. This particular piece was excavated in Tsuruta-cho, Gifu City.
