A celadon plate made during the Goryeo Dynasty.

A celadon glaze with a gray-green cast coats the shallow, wide form. Rather than a bright jade tone, the glaze presents a deep, subdued color that seems mellowed by time; the surface reveals fine crazing, areas of glaze unevenness, and the texture of iron-rich clay.

The interior bears a circular step, with kiln marks remaining at the center. The rim is slightly upright; unlike the neatly finished Goryeo celadon, this example displays a somewhat rugged clay character and a vigorous quality of execution.

With a convenient diameter of approximately 19 cm, it is well suited not only as a dish for sweets or for serving fruit, but also sits harmoniously in a tea setting or as a tabletop arrangement. Its subdued celadon tone harmonizes with white porcelain, red clay, and wooden implements, imparting a quiet sense of depth to any grouping.

Fine wear from age, glaze irregularities, crazing, iron spots, and kiln marks are visible. Hairline cracks are present, and an old paper label thought to have been affixed in Korea remains on the reverse. Overall, the piece retains the attractive character of an antique ceramic.
