This is a Meiji-period copper brazier (kettle brazier). The body combines fan-shaped and square decorative panels, with butterflies, flowers, and bamboo rendered in fine line engraving, and flat silver and brass inlay applied in places. The well-worn brown surface quietly sets off the design, creating a refined, composed whole characteristic of Meiji metalwork.
The interior retains soot and verdigris from use. The exterior shows spotty discoloration and abrasions around the rim, yet the copper surface has developed a pleasing patina. Ash was laid inside, and iron kettles or kettles for boiling water were hung.
Please use as a bottle hanger.
For care, avoid excessive polishing; we recommend primarily dry wiping.
