A set of five Qing Dynasty antique tin tea saucers, openwork-carved with a yin-yang scroll motif.

This small lobed saucer appears to have been a commissioned piece for use with gyokuro tea. The central well displays a yin-yang motif, encircled by a thunder-pattern border, with openwork arabesque scrolls on either side. Although the pierced detailing is fine, the overall effect is restrained, and the size is well suited to receive a small sencha bowl or a Chinese tea cup.

The tin surface bears darkening and scuffing from prolonged use, with fine wear evident along the rim and within the openwork. Unlike brightly polished tinware, the subdued patina has softened the decorative edges and settled into an understated, harmonious finish.

These saucers are suitable not only for use with sencha utensils but also accompany small Chinese teacups with ease. They form a quietly elegant set for a tea setting. Set of 5, signed.
