This is a white-glazed Delftware cup, crafted in the 17th to 18th century. Delft pottery gained popularity in Europe during the Age of Exploration and was originally produced for use as ointment containers. However, in Japan, it has been cherished since the Edo period as a sake cup and water vessel within the tea ceremony, where it has been highly esteemed.

The piece is made of soft-paste porcelain, characterized by its smooth, white surface reminiscent of yogurt. Its tactile quality is pleasantly moist, beautifully reflecting light and shadow. Furthermore, the wear and patina acquired over time enhance the elegance of the vessel, adding to its character. Such signs of age are a distinctive charm of Delftware.

While a water leakage test conducted overnight showed no issues, please note that due to its antiquity, we cannot guarantee against future leaks. Given the current circumstances, acquiring Delftware has become increasingly challenging. We invite you to consider adding this exquisite piece to your collection.
